Gaute part II and III

May 31, 2007

Joel VanDyke is at the Brownhouse. He shared last night about outreach efforts in Guatemala. Truly one of the most remarkable people I have ever met. He was great stories, told with great gusto. Our living and dining room was filled to overflowing and he held us spell bound for over 2 hours and then many stayed much later to hear more and see pictures. I will try to detail more of his ministry here with some links soon. Extraordinary!

Tracy is going to Gaute next week for a couple of reasons. One of the special needs orphans we met, Michelle, died a couple weeks ago. So Tracy has felt compelled to be a presence in the midst of the pain for the family and other kids in the orphanage. Also we have a friend who is adopting from Guate that will be there at the same time and she wants to help document with camera and video. And of course that reason that needs no explanation: The Griswolds are there.

The July trip is coming together quite nicely as well. We’re still talking details but here’s where it stands:

– July 17-26
– we’ll work in the gang prisons in some way
– visit Amor del Nino and possibly do a project for them (at least play with the kids. Can’t wait to get my joy infusion!!)
– possibly a project in La Liminada (mispelled) where mother Tita and Jeremiah teach/work.
– a couple fun side trips: climbing volcanoe Picaya, Antigua, snorkelling at an island off coast of Honduras….

What till you hear about the line up of guys going! Wow!

(there’s still room for others who are interested. Lemme know.)
